Advanced Placement courses also offer students an opportunity to take a course taught on a college level. Intensive classroom work, independent study, and research are an integral part of AP courses. The examination is administered by the College Entrance Examination Board and a five-point college-level scale is used. According to the College Board, more than 90% of colleges and universities offer college credit, advanced standing, or both, for qualifying AP scores. AP Examinations must be taken to receive the 10% high school weighting for the course and to receive AP credit. A student enrolled in an AP course may registers for the AP exam. If students choose not to take an AP exam, the designation of the course will be changed to Honors, as per College Board Policy, and their AP course grade will receive a 6% high school weighting.
College Board will open registration for the May exams shortly after the beginning of the school year.
Students must join their teacher's AP Course through College Board and register for their exams. Additionally, registration and payment for AP exams are to be done between October 1st through the 15th, dates after the 15th of October will incur a late fee.
