Student-Led Drive Secures 500 Toys for Stony Brook Children's Hospital
CHS National Honor Society member Amelia K.’s family began performing small gestures during the holiday season to help the less fortunate about seven years ago — including assisting Thanksgiving charity dinners and toy drives.
“Providing for these less fortunate children struck a deep chord within me,” Amelia said. “I decided that not only was I determined to do help others, but to inspire others to do the same — to teach and to show others how much of a difference they can make through their small acts of kindness.”
This past holiday season, Amelia used her platform as a National Honor Society member to chair a toy drive.
The result: 500 toys delivered to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.
“When I dropped off these donations at the hospital, the workers and healthcare staff demonstrated their gratitude,” Amelia said. “Although I could not bring the toys into the rooms of patients myself due to health risks, I was assured of the joy that would be brought to these children. … I hope to continue this tradition throughout years to come, and bring more smiles and laughter to these children in times of need.”
