Commack Shines at Newsday Marching Band Festival
They definitely saved the best for last on Wednesday night at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex … with a Barbie-themed showcase bringing down the house.
The Commack High School band and Cougarettes concluded an evening of performances from assorted Suffolk and Nassau schools at the 60th Newsday Marching Band Festival with a rousing four-song performance.
With nearly 300 Commack performers in all, the marching band and Cougarettes performed “Pink,” “I’m Just Ken,” “Dance the Night Away” and “Barbie” under the direction of Frank Hansen.
Principal Carrie Lipenholtz and vice principal Matthew Keltos helped bring home the performance, playing Barbie and Ken during the final song.
Six buses in all transported the student performers to Uniondale.
The cheering section included superintendent Dr. Jordan Cox and the football team.
